Saints' fear WR Dez Bryant suffered torn Achilles, Could be out for season

A nightmare struck newly signed Saints' receiver Dez Bryant on Friday afternoon as the team fears Bryant may have torn his Achilles on the final play of practice.

Fresh off a drama-filled season in Dallas, New Orleans was supposed to be a fresh start for Bryant. He had already staked his claim as a top receiver in the league after three consecutive 1,000-yard season from 2012-2014 and was well on his way to being one of the Cowboys' most decorated receivers.

Nearly unstoppable in his prime, Bryant saw a massive decline in production in the years following. One year after his last 1,000-yard season, Bryant missed the majority of 2015 with a foot injury.

Knowing Tony Romo was on his last leg, Dallas drafted Ezekiel Elliot ad Dak Prescott in 2016. The two rookies played pivotal roles in the Cowboys 13-3 record and Bryant's pro-bowl campaign. A pro-bowl season did not secure Bryant's job as a starter for long as the eight-year pro was released following the 2017 season.

Bryant was not pleased to be cut with two years left on his contract and he let the world know.

A slew of tweets were released by Bryant and one even directed towards Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones.

Bryant was quoted saying "I'll see you guys twice this year" in regards to playing the Cowboys. Those two meetings never came as Bryant waited till after week nine to sign a contract. According to Adam Schefter, Bryant's contract is a $1.25M base salary and can be worth up to $1.75M with incentives.

Bryant waited for the right decision. Signing with the Saints meant playing alongside an elite quarterback, running back, and wide receiver for the first time in his career. An offense composed of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas and Dez Bryant could have the best NFL defense playing on their heels.

A dream offense at least one week away from taking the field together looks to be nothing but a fantasy after Bryant's injury. Bryant's injury also took away the one thing he wanted, to play Dallas. The Saints are scheduled to travel to Dallas on November 29th for Thursday Night Football. Bryant will never get his shot at revenge against his former team in 2018.

Bryant released a tweet tonight after the injury occurred.

At the age of 30, it took Bryant nine weeks to find the right fit. A 31-year old receiver recovering from a major injury may have an even harder time finding a job in 2019. Could 2017 have been the last time we see Dez Bryant on the field?
