How the Dolphins Win the AFC East Division this season

The last time the New England Patriots did not win the AFC East division was back in 2008 when the 11-5 Miami Dolphins won it. Ever since then, the Patriots dominated winning the division for 11 straight seasons.

Now with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski leaving New England to go down to Tampa Bay, we could see either the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, or New York Jets finally bring home a division title. With three first-round picks in tomorrow’s NFL Draft, the Dolphins have a great chance to reach the playoffs if they make good choices.

With the fifth overall pick in the draft, the Dolphins must go for a quarterback. With Ryan Fitzpatrick, we never know what he can do every season. Some years he can be great, but for other years, he can be the worst quarterback in the NFL. So just to be on the safe side in case Fitzpatrick doesn’t perform well, they have to draft a quarterback in the first round.

If for some reason the first four teams don’t draft LSU’s Joe Burrow, that would be huge for the Dolphins. However, the Dolphins are most likely to go with Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, which wouldn’t be bad for them either.

Miami’s next pick at no. 18 should be an offensive lineman. By the time Miami gets its second first-round pick, some of the best offensive linemen will already be drafted including Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, and Alabama’s Jedrick Wills. A good fit for Miami could be Louisville’s Mekhi Becton who was a monster helping Louisville’s running backs.

With a great offensive tackle helping the run game, it would make sense for Miami to draft a running back with the 26th overall pick. In this case, they should go for the best running back in this year’s draft. That would be Georgia’s D’Andre Swift.

If the Dolphins can make great choices like these in the first round tomorrow night, we could finally see a new AFC East champion.
