Giants to trade Odell Beckham Jr. during the Offseason

Updated: Jun 6, 2019

Following a 5-11 season, the New York Giants are still looking to rebuild. The first piece of the puzzle was put in place when the team drafted 2018 Rookie of the Year Saquon Barkley. An outstanding year by Barkley has the Giants searching for more young talent any way possible.

Jay Glazer of the Athletic predicts the New York Giants will trade star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason.

Odell Beckham has a troubled history with the Giants. Sideline tantrums and a photo of the entire receiving on a boat in Miami surfaced prior to a 2016 playoff game. Beckham was even caught on video with a "white substance."

The negative media attention did not prevent Beckham from signing a five-year, $95 million extension before last season but that did not prohibit his name from surfacing in trade talks.

Trading Beckham would likely allow the Giants to fill multiple holes and revamp an aging roster in the upcoming drafts, but New York will have to play the waiting game as explained by Ben Violin of the Boston Globe.

The Giants would also save the majority of Beckham's remaining contract, as Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio explained last winter. A new team would owe $74 million of Beckham's deal as the Giants would have to take on the left over $16 million over two years.

Odell Beckham is a three-time Pro Bowler with four 1,000 yard season in his first five years in the league. He has also averaged 11 touchdowns a year since entering the league in 2014.

A few teams made offers for Beckham last offseason with the San Francisco 49ers the most prominent. While the offers made are unknown, Florio reported the 49ers would be interested if Beckham ever became available again.

The Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots are also rumored to be interested in a deal for Beckham.

Odell Beckham Jr. joins Steelers' receiver Antonio Brown as the second All-Pro receiver expected to be traded this offseason.
