We are less than two weeks away from the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite different settings due to COVID-19, many prospects will still realize the dream of being called to play at football’s top level.
For every football program, they can’t be a good team without having a good quarterback. For the five quarterbacks listed below, they made a huge impact in their respective college programs.
These five quarterbacks will look to make a bigger impact to advance to the Super Bowl, which is the biggest dream of any football player. Let’s start the list with the fifth overall quarterback in this year’s NFL draft.
5. Jacob Eason (Washington Huskies)
Even though Eason only played one season at Washington, a strong sophomore season at the University of Georgia gave him the big start. In 2016, he started a bit slow as a true freshman leading the Bulldogs to an 8-5 record.
In his final year at Georgia before transferring, he led the Bulldogs to a 13-2 record, an SEC championship, and an appearance in the national championship game. After redshirting in 2018 due to NCAA transfer rules, he made a huge impact for the Huskies in 2019. He finished the season with 3,132 passing yards and 23 touchdowns.
Even though Eason is not a deep passer, he knows how to effectively get the ball to his receivers. In 2019, his longest passing play was 19 yards against Colorado.
4. Jordan Love (Utah State Aggies)
Love could be loved by whichever team selects him as he has proven to be a real threat inside and outside the pocket. Love holds three career school records at Utah State including 9,003 total offensive yards in three years, 12 career 300-yard passing games, and four 80+ yards completions.
Love also tied the single-game record with five touchdowns in not one, but two games in 2018. Do not expect Love to be a first-round pick, but he could be selected in the second or third round.
3. Justin Herbert (Oregon Ducks)
This could be a really risky pick for any team in this year’s draft. Out of high school, Herbert was only a 3-star recruit. He later proved that he has what it takes to be a top-notch quarterback in the NFL.
The 2-time All-American had a stellar 2019 season leading the Ducks to a Rose Bowl game victory over Wisconsin. In 2019, he threw 3,471 yards and at least 100 in each game with a season-high 316 yards and five touchdowns against Montana.
Herbert is one of those quarterbacks that dominates with deep passing, but don’t expect a big run game from him since he only ran 50 yards on the ground in 2019.
2. Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama Crimson Tide)
If Tagovailoa entered the NFL draft a couple years ago, he would have easily been the number one overall pick with the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately for him, he’s now number two.
Tagovailoa is another quarterback that doesn’t have a huge running game, but he has proven that he can some damage in the air. The all-time passing touchdown leader at Alabama (87) however is injury prone. Expect Tagovailoa to be drafted in the first round, but we will have to see if he can hang in there with the hardest hitting players in the NFL.
1. Joe Burrow (LSU Tigers)
Burrow can easily be going to the Cincinnati Bengals as the number one overall pick in the draft this year.
The 2019 national champion and Heisman Trophy winner can pass the ball, run the ball, and even catch the ball. Burrow only threw 11 interceptions in his two years with the Tigers. In the 2019 college football playoff semifinal against Oklahoma, Burrow threw a career-high seven touchdowns, which shows that a huge gameday atmosphere doesn’t intimidate him.
