Kyrie Irving Not Heading to LA?

Recent reports claim Kyrie Irving and former-teammate and Lakers' star LeBron James had dinner last Saturday. With the reports came speculation and a case of hysteria by fans proclaiming, 'Kyrie to LA confirmed!'

That bubble burst Friday evening as ESPN's Jackie MacMullan stated, "People close to Kyrie Irving doesn't expect him to sign with the Lakers."

Despite an awkward and disappointing end to the Celtics' season, which saw Celtic fans call out Irving on social media for his lack effort, the 27-year old point guard looks to be sticking to his words made in October of last year.

“I’ve shared it with some of my teammates as well as the organization as well as everyone else in Boston. If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here next year,” he would say via ESPN.

The quote, of course, was followed by a troublesome season, which saw Irving apologize multiple times to the media for how he handled adversity throughout the year. Irving called out players and at times responded to questioning in a harsh manner.

The apologizing and antagonizing behavior accumulated in a season-ending series in the second round of the playoffs against the number-one seed Milwaukee Bucks.

Irving walked off the court and did not seem to care Boston had been eliminated one round previous than the year before when Irving missed the playoffs with a knee injury. He gave the impression of relief.

Now no longer under contract, Irving can escape a situation that suggests disdain or annoyance like the one in Boston. He can also flee to Los Angeles or New York, which are rumored to be in the running for the more prolific free agents this summer.

Whatever Irving chooses, the only option is to join another star and abandon the main reason he requested a trade from Cleveland in the first place-to be the man.
