The Philadelphia Phillies and superstar outfielder Bryce Harper signed a record-breaking 13-year deal worth $330 million on the second day of March. Seventeen days later, the deal now sits second in the record books.
The Los Angeles Angeles and two-time MVP Mike Trout have reached an agreement on a historic deal worth upwards of $430 million over a 12-year span.
The deal first reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan makes Trout the highest-paid athlete in professional sports and the record holder for the largest contract in Major League Baseball history.
Trout, who has won two MVP awards and been named to the All-Star game seven times, will receive close to an average of $36 million a year, eclipsing pitcher Zack Greinke's previous record average of $34.4 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Trout, who was supposed to become a free agent following the 2020 season, will now spend the next decade in an Angels uniform deterring any rumor of him joining Harper in his hometown of Philadelphia.
The new deal will negate the final two years of Trout's already existing six-years contract and replace it with the 12-year deal through the 2030 season sources told ESPN.
Mike Trout, already known as the best player in baseball, is on pace to become one of the greatest of all-time with his unequaled stat line. Through his age-26 season, Trout has slashed .307/.416/.573 with 240 home runs, 648 RBI's, 793 runs and 189 stolen bases. Trout even holds the record for wins above replacement through his age-26 season with 64.3.
Trout stands alone as the only professional baseball player to sign a contract of $400 million or more and joins Bryce Harper and Manny Machado as the third player to sign a contract upwards of $300 million.
