Pelicans fans’ prayers have been answered, with the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA draft, they will almost certainly be selecting arguably the best player to enter the NBA draft since 2012, when they selected Anthony Davis No. 1 overall. Newly installed executive vice president David Griffin has been gifted the opportunity to draft a supremely talented franchise player amidst the front office's trade negotiations for Davis. The Pelicans now have the opportunity to assemble a defensive juggernaut led by the trio of Davis, Williamson and Jrue Holiday that could return the team to the playoffs.

Morant offers elite athleticism and playmaking at the point guard position with all-star potential and will immediately become the future for an organization that is in the middle of a rebuild. Despite playing in a mid-major conference, Morant absolutely proved that he is worthy of a top-two selection. After trading Marc Gasol to Toronto prior to the trade deadline, the Grizzlies will likely move on from Mike Conley in order to give the keys to the franchise to Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., Memphis’ No. 4 overall selection in 2018.

Combining Barrett with Kevin Knox can provide the Knicks with two young athletic wing players.

Two of the Lakers’ biggest weaknesses last season were their defense and their three- point shooting. The Lakers shot just 33.3 percent from beyond the arc last season, which was second worst in the NBA. Although Hunter’s numbers are underwhelming, he played an instrumental part in Virginia’s National Championship and projects as an elite three-point shooter and lengthy defender. He also played alongside two prolific shooting guards, Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy. At 21, Hunter is immediately ready to contribute to a team that will want to see an instant impact from their draft selection and desires a player who knows how to play championship basketball.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech, G)

Despite questionable shooting numbers, Culver scored 18.5 points per game in his
sophomore season leading Texas Tech to their first Final Four in program history. Culver projects as a big shooting guard who has plenty of potential, but will likely struggle in his rookie season. The Cavaliers are in their second year of a rebuild after losing LeBron James in free agency last summer. Cleveland can pair Culver with their first-round selection last season, point guard Collin Sexton, forming their backcourt for the future.
6. Phoenix Suns: Coby White (UNC, G)

Although Garland is arguably the better prospect, he is a score-first guard, whereas, White is a talented playmaker who can be a natural fit in the Phoenix backcourt alongside young star Devin Booker. White played in a number of big games in his freshman season at North Carolina and competed against the top talent in the country in the ACC. White’s impressive free throw percentage is a promising sign that he will continue to be able to develop his jump shot at the next level.

Garland played just five games in his freshman season at Vanderbilt, however, in those
five games, he was able to show exactly why he may be the second-best point guard in this year's draft. Garland is a score-first point guard who will likely benefit from the Bulls’ current point guard situation. Given the team’s lack of success with Kris Dunn leading the offense, Garland will surely be the point guard of the future for a team who is still years away from a playoff appearance.
8. Atlanta Hawks: Brandon Clarke (Gonzaga, F)

Clarke had an outstanding junior season at Gonzaga and proved that he can be a talented two-way player in the NBA. Averaging 1.2 steals and 3.2 blocks per game, Clarke is one of the best defensive players in this year's draft and will be a great addition to the young nucleus forming in Atlanta. If Vince Carter were to re-sign with the Hawks, he would be the perfect mentor for Clarke to help him transition to the NBA.

Despite having an abysmal shooting season at Duke, Reddish has the size and athleticism to potentially develop into a defensive threat on the hardwood. Reddish played in many big games but failed to contribute significantly at the biggest moments during the season.

There are legitimate injury concerns surrounding Bol Bol. However, he has proven that
he can be an elite stretch five who can confidently score from beyond the three-point line. Averaging 9.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game, Bol projects as an impactful rim protector who can anchor a defense with his wingspan and standing reach. Adding Bol to a frontcourt with John Collins will be a natural fit given Collins’ ability to score inside the paint and Bol’s ability to spread the court. A young core of Trae Young, Collins, Bol, and Clarke would be as entertaining as any other young team in the league.

Doumbouya enters the draft as the most polarizing prospect given his lack of production.
However, unlike the majority of the other prospects, Doumbouya competed in the LNB Pro A French basketball league and played against grown men rather than college level players. Doumbouya offers ideal size and length as a forward in the NBA and will likely be a project worth investing in. Over time Doumbouya can become an asset for a Timberwolves team trying to return to the playoffs.

However, he will have to continue to work to improve his game to solidify his role in the NBA.

Johnson shot over 80 percent from the free throw line in each of his four full seasons in college and can be an instant contributor off the bench for Nets team that will be looking to make a repeat appearance in the playoffs.

After averaging 11.6 points in his sophomore season, Hachimura had a breakout junior season as Gonzaga’s primary scorer scoring 19.7 points per game on 59.1 percent shooting from the field and 41.7 percent beyond the arc. Hachimura’s has great offensive potential but still leaves more to be desired on the defensive side of the ball.

Williams has proven his ability to take advantage of his free throw opportunities after shooting 81.9 percent on 7.0 free throws per game last season.

Playing alongside Ben Simmons, Jerome will help space the floor and can be the perfect complementary guard to Simmons. Furthermore, Jerome is a skilled passer, who led the ACC with 202 total assists last season.

Thybulle led the nation with 126 steals last season and is first all-time in the Pac-12 with 331 career steals.

After coming off of the bench as a freshman, Okeke started all 38 games for the Tigers in his sophomore season and is a career 38.9 three-point shooter. Okeke improved his defensive numbers going from 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks per game to 1.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game as a sophomore.

Despite shooting just 35.5 percent on 4.6 three-point attempts per game, Herro shot an impressive 93.5 percent from the free throw line, which suggests that he can still improve as a shooter from beyond the arc. Although Herro had a 46.2 percent field goal percentage, his true shooting percentage (takes into account 2-point field goals, 3-point field goals, and free throws) is 58.0 percent.

Porter missed last season after tearing his ACL and MCL last October, but averaged 24.5 minutes per game as a freshman coming off the bench. Porter is a big bodied center who can hit three-pointers at an efficient rate of 36.4 percent and can be a quality rim protector after averaging 1.7 blocks per game.

Edwards led the Big Ten in points (874), points per game (24.3), field goals (277), 3-point field goals (135), usage percentage (37.3) and points produced (787). Edwards is a career 36.8 percent three-point shooter on 7.1 three-point attempts per game. As a junior, Edwards shot 83.7 percent from the free throw line on 6.1 free throw attempts per game, proving his ability to get to the line.

Horton-Tucker projects as a great defender with great size and length to bully
undersized guards in the NBA. At just 18, Horton-Tucker’s game will continue to improve as he matures. With a 7’1.25” wingspan, Horton-Tucker’s length is rare and can help him become an elite perimeter defender at the next level. Although his production left more to be desired, Horton-Tucker will continue to grow and could benefit from playing in Mike Budenholzer’s defensive system that ranked first in the NBA this year.
